Coach Jay is a Master at Arms certified through the Italian sporting body US Acli, and has completed coaching certifications through several other organizations, including Storica Defensa, the Cateran Society, and Valour HEMA.
Jay founded Wolves Den Historical Fencing in 2011 and has spent more than a decade studying historical fencing as both a competitor and coach. He studied under Maître Steven Symons, former President of the Canadian Fencing Federation, and continues to build on that coaching tradition.
As a competitor, Jay is a 5-time Canadian National Gold Medalist in Broadsword, Smallsword, and Singlestick, with more than 35 gold medals across multiple HEMA disciplines.
Jay is also a Mental Health Therapist, and brings that background into his coaching philosophy. He believes good coaching means developing the whole person alongside the athlete and creating an environment where people can challenge themselves, build confidence, and enjoy the process of learning.
Coach Jay teaches our Tuesday evening Fundamentals classes and offers private lessons throughout the week for club members.
Meet Coach Wyatt Campbell!
Wyatt began his fencing journey at Wolves Den Historical Fencing in 2015, starting with Highland Broadsword. In 2016, he began studying Longsword directly from historical sources and sharing what he was learning with his fellow students. That experience sparked a lasting passion for both teaching and reconstructing the martial knowledge preserved in historical fencing texts.
Wyatt quickly earned the rank of Cateran Instructor through the Cateran Society and is a Board-Certified Oak Rank Coach through Storica Defensa. He is currently working toward his Master at Arms through Storica Defensa, continuing his development as both a fencer and coach.
Always expanding his knowledge, Wyatt studies the use of different weapons across historical periods and traditions. He has demonstrated his skill as a multi-time medalist across several weapons, including Broadsword, Rapier, Sidesword, and Longsword, at events including the Manitoba Highland Gathering Provincial Championship.
Outside of fencing, Wyatt works full-time as a carpenter. He enjoys sharing his knowledge of the trade with his apprentices, much like he enjoys passing on his fencing knowledge to his students.
Wyatt brings a combination of historical curiosity, practical skill, and a genuine passion for teaching to the Wolves Den coaching team.
